"Go with the Floe" by Sean Gregory (Blog 2)

In his article “Go with the Floe”, author Sean Gregory lets us in on the new travel destinations being created by nature itself. Climate change has been a worrying topic for most, but for travelers it’s an innovator of landscapes. A Scottish traveller, Jock Wishart, and his crew are about to, unbelievably, sail into the North Pole. It was only a decade ago when people would have never thought of the possibility of sailing to the North Pole due to the ice. But as global warming continued to heat the Earth the ice finally started to melt. The ice in the oceans is not the only ice melting. Mountain ice is melting as well. This opens up opportunities for adventurers to explore some of the highest points on mountains that have never been explored before. The southern Andes Mountains is one place that has new trails to explore due to the change in climate. Adventurers may enjoy seeing new trails being created, but still do not support climate change. They describe it as a “love-hate” relationship.
I really do enjoy reading articles about climate change because climate change was the topic I mostly studied during my high school senior year. I have done my research on the highly controversial topic of global warming and I am a strong believer that global warming is occurring. It excites me that there are new places to explore on this planet, but the fact that the Earth is visually changing right in front of us worries me.  We should continue putting most of our focus on fixing this atmospheric imbalance instead of exploring the “new” lands.

  1. I think it's great that you're interested in Global Warming. It's something that I have yet to learn more about, and the article you posted helps me understand at least a little more. Exploring mountains that have been melting may sounds exciting but I agree that we should be working to restore land to it's natural being and that we shouldn't focus on exploring as much as restoring.

  2. This is a very interesting article. I'm a strong believer in global warming myself. I do Strongly agree with you we should be Focus on fixing the atmospheric imbalance instead of exploring the “new” lands. That what we all Breathe from everyday and the more we do that we will end up living longer in a way.

  3. So the explorers find this good? What about all the animals that depend on the ice? I believe that it is interesting that there are new places being discovered around the world, but the animals that live throughout this change suffer greatly. With global warming, there hasn't been complete explained evidence it is happening, but good amounts of ice are melting every year. But I do believe somewhat of a temperature rise is happening tin the world. With this article, I do find it interesting that there are new places being discovered in the north pole. We shall only wait to see how this will affect us as a planet. Hopefully it's nothing too drastic.

  4. I wonder how you respond when people, like my father-in-law, and even politicians like Michelle Bachmann deny the existence of global warming. It seems they are ignoring a wealth of scientific evidence that supports the presence of global warming. I wonder what it will take for more of the "nonbelievers" to be converted!
